Sultan declares Monday 1st Muharram, Sokoto Government declares Tuesday public holiday

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa'ad Abubakar III, has pronounced Monday, October3, as the main day of Muharram, 1438 AH. The announcement is contained in an announcement issued for his sake in Sokoto on Sunday by Prof. Sambo Junaidu, Chairman, Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Sultanate Council, Sokoto It said:"The Sultanate Council Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs,in conjunction with the National Moon Sighting Committee, did not get any reports from different moon locating boards the nation over affirming the locating of the new moon of Muharram, 1438 AH on Saturday, which was the 29th day of Zulhijja, 1437 AH "' The Sultan and President-General, Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs in Nigeria( NSCIA), has acknowledged the reports and appropriately proclaimed Monday,3rd October,2016, as the principal day of Muharram,1438 AH " The sultan wishes all Muslims, a glad new year. May Allah ( SWT), acknowledge our religious deeds. In a related improvement, the Sokoto State Government has pronounced Tuesday, October 4, 2016, which is proportional to Muharram 2. 1438 AH, as open occasion to honor the begin of the Islamic New Year An announcement issued Sunday by Malam Imam, representative to Gov. Aminu Tambuwal, praised Nigerian Muslims for seeing the Hijra New Year It cited Tambuwal as speaking to the general population of the state to utilize the event of people in general occasion to heighten petitions for the country. It asked all subjects to care, love and secure each other, including that, Islamic temperances of solidarity, peace and genuineness, ought to be advanced by all people.

Nigerian Paralympian Rolland Ezuruike wins Gold while Latifat Tijani wins Silver for Nigeria in Rio 2016

Nigerian Paralympian, Rolland Ezuruike won the first Gold for the country in the on going Rio 2016 Paralympic games, when he lifted 200kg in the men’s 54kg to beat China’s Jian Wang and Greece’s Dimitrios Bakochristos to the top prize. It is Nigeria’s first gold and the second medal in the games. The Gold medal was the first in the games for Nigeria but the 2nd medal so far. Latifat Tijani won the first medal by clinching a silver medal in the women’s 45kg power lifting event with a lift of 106kg. China’s Dandan Hu won gold with a lift of 107 kg while Zoe Newson of Great Britain won the bronze medal. Tijani entered the competition at 101kg, while other competitors attempted below 100kg. Tijani lifted 106kg to come second after going back and forth with China's Hu who eventually won  the competition by clinching a Gold medal.
