Those who distorted the 2016 budget will be severely punished - Buhari

President Buhari has vowed to severely punish all those involved in the 'padding' of the 2016 National Budget. According to a statement by presidential media aide, Femi Adesina, Buhari said this while addressing the Nigerian Community in Saudi Arabia yesterday February 23rd. “The culprits will not go unpunished. I have been a military governor, petroleum minister, military Head of State and headed the Petroleum Trust Fund. Never had I heard the words “budget padding”. Our Minister of Budget and National Planning did a great job with his team. The Minister became almost half his size during the time, working night and day to get the budget ready, only for some people to pad it. What he gave us was not what was finally being debated. It is very embarrassing and disappointing. We will not allow those who did it to go unpunished," he vowed. Nigerian man Adebanjo Adegboye charged with murder in Cheetham Hill, UK

Adebanjo Adegboye, 20, of Jameson Close, Cheetham Hill has been charged with murder of a 58-year-old man, Greater Manchester Police reports. He was remanded into custody and appeared at Manchester Magistrates Court on Tuesday 23 February 2016. Police were called by paramedics to a house on Jameson Close, off Fairy Lane in Cheetham Hil l, on Sun day afternoon following reports that a man had been stabbed. Officers attended and found that a man had been fatally injured. He sadly died at the address a short time later. The victim has not been formally identified but was named locally as Henry Adeboye. A Home Office post-mortem examination confirmed his cause of death as stab wounds. Police forensics teams arrived on Monday, while one officer stood guard outside the property were called to the scene. Nigerian arrested in Cameroon over illegal Ivory trafficking

A Nigerian man was arrested in Bertoua in the East region of Cameroon over illegal marketing of ivory and pangolin scales. The 43-year-old man was arrested this week in an operation conducted by agents of the Regional Delegation of Forestry and Wildlife of the East in collaboration with the police. The Last Great Ape Organization (LAGA) provided technical assistance during the operation.   The man was on board a taxi with suspicious packages hidden in a trunk; when he stopped, he got out and headed to a bar, he was surrounded by wildlife officers. Azemte Mbemo Alain Patrick , the head of the regional department of the Eastern fauna, is the man who led the operation. " The suspect hired a taxi and headed for the place of the transaction with a client when he was arrested. Two arrested by Ghana Immigration Service for attempting to traffick 42 children to Nigeria

The Ghana Immigration Service has rescued 42 children who were being trafficked to Nigeria from Tatale and its surrounding communities in the Northern region. The children were aged between 10 and 17 years. Two persons were arrested over the crime. The suspects identified as Paul Waabem, 24 a Ghanaian from Tatale, resident in Nigeria, and Moses Yaw Kumah, 27, a Togolese, who also lives in Nigeria were remanded in prison custody and reappeared in court yesterday, February 23, 2016. Thirty-three of the children were rescued first and nine others later. The Northern Regional Commander of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS), Assistant Director of Immigration (ADI), Mr Eric Afari,(pictured) who disclosed this in Tamale on Saturday, February 20, said the command had intensified its border patrols in the eastern corridor of the Northern Region to clamp down on the activities of child traffickers. Student expelled for speech and hearing challenges sues Rivers University for N20 million

28 year old Jane Ottah, an ex-student of the Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST) has instituted a N20 million law suit against the management of Rivers State University of Science and Technology, for expelling her from the school because she has a speech and hearing challenge. Jane, a first year student of the Department of Educational Foundation at the university, was expelled on January 30th 2015, over claims that she had speech and hearing challenges. Jane has approached the Rivers State High Court and has instituted a N20 million suit against the school management, challenging her expulsion and also demanding a perpetual injunction restraining the university or their agents from discriminating against her in any way.   Two soldiers working with Boko Haram terror group have been arrested by the Nigerian Army. Nigerian Court jails two Nigerians caught smuggling $5.4m cash

Two Nigerians, Ojukwu Nnamdi Rowland and Ngene Linus Chibuike (pictured above), who were arrested at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, while attempting to smuggle $5, 424,270 USD out of the country in October last year, have been convicted and sentenced to two years imprisonment respectively by Justice Ibrahim Buba of the Federal High Court, Lagos. Rowland was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, on October 22, 2015, for being in possession of cash in the sum of US$2,917,272 (Two Million, Nine Hundred and Seventeen Thousand, Two Hundred and Seventy Two United States Dollars) during his outbound clearance for a journey to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Rowland did not declare the money to men and officers of the Nigeria Customs Service and was subsequently arrested and arraigned before Justice Buba.
